1977 Californian Trawler LRC 42ft. Aft Cabin

Wilmington, California

$59,500

Wonderfully spacious 42’ Californian 1977 trawler. The owner and his family have very much enjoyed this get away on the water for 10 years and has retired. Reached a point where he seeks to pass it on to another family for great memories to be had. Solid condition. Clean engine room. Many maintenance parts upgraded with receipts.

A Californian trawler this size has a good reputation as being solidly built and known as a comfortable seaworthy boat. The 42’ length provides a nice balance of space in each area of the interior. The owner’s family have been very pleased with how the vessel handles and moves along on the water. They found it to be very comfortable and confident under way. Cruises at 9-10 knots.

Brightwork teak wood rails and steps need to be refinished. Caulking around some windows need to be freshened up.

This nice solid boat can provide many years of enjoyment.  Very much worth seeing. As the salesperson showing the Lani Kai. I enjoy this boat. As I myself own a 38’ Californian trawler. So, I know it well. The extra length on this 42’ makes a nice difference.

Engines

In August of 2019. The boat was gone through for maintenance work. The twin Cat 3208 naturally aspirated 210hp engines start up right away. Port engine, starboard engine and generator were each serviced with new oil, oil filters and fuel filters. Air filters were changed on both engines. The oil dip sticks were scribed with the correct oil level markings. Valve lash on port and starboard engines were adjusted. Pointer for adjusting the timing was replaced. Starboard alternator was repaired. The transmission oil was also changed.

Generator

The Kohler 5K generator raw water pump impeller was replaced. The 5K generator runs well. Yet, currently needs a possible ignition switch or wiring check. It started readily at the controls on the generator.

Hull

They had the boat hauled out and the bottom painted. Two coats of paint with a third coat applied at the water line. Thru hull values were replaced for both port and starboard engine intakes. Including the head intake, generator intake, bait tank intake, backing plates and ball valves. The thru hull strainers were cleaned, painted and re-installed.

Both of the engine’s intake hoses from the strainers to the raw water pumps were replaced. Other hoses and bonding wires were inspected and reconnected. Zinc studs were replaced with an insulated stud system. Bonding system checked with meter. Found to be in satisfactory condition. Port and starboard shaft packing glands and rudder packing glands were repacked. Shafts and cutlass bearings were found to be in good condition.

Steering and Control Cables

A steering leak behind lower station helm console was found at that time. Leak was repaired and then the steering system was filled and purged properly for when a procedure like that is done. Morrison control cables for the upper and lower stations were replaced.

Plumbing

The macerator and each of the two head’s Vacuflush systems were inspected. All found to be working. Has a holding tank full sensor.

Electrical

Fuses and fuse holders were installed between batteries and battery switches. A new 125 VAC rotary switch and the fuel tank senders in port and starboard tanks were installed. Three 8D batteries and a smart charger were installed.

Tankage and Additional Features

This Californian has a 200-gallon steel fuel tank and a 250-gallon aluminum tank. Has anchor chain and working water heater. Helon fire system in place. Needs updated certification.

Dingy and Deck Features

Comes with a 2012 Achilles 9’ dingy with a Tohatsu 6hp motor. Dual outriggers, rod holder rack for 8 fishing rods and a boom hoist. Electric windlass.
