See the opening description of the Lani Kai in italics.
The starboard engine recently developed a ticking sound coming from the upper forward left side of the engine. It did not do that when I first reviewed the vessel for listing. It ran fine then.
The symptoms have been pointing strongly towards it needing head work. The oil and engine coolant are each very clean. All eight fuel injectors have been replaced with new ones. It has about 1500 hours on the engines. Several mechanics have been spoken with about this engine’s condition. Feel free to call me for more information.
In August of 2019. The boat was gone through for maintenance work. The twin Cat 3208 naturally aspirated 210hp engines start up right away. Port engine, starboard engine and generator were each serviced with new oil, oil filters and fuel filters. Air filters were changed on both engines. The oil dip sticks were scribed with the correct oil level markings. Valve lash on port and starboard engines were adjusted. Pointer for adjusting the timing was replaced. Starboard alternator was repaired. The transmission oil was also changed.
The Kohler 5K generator raw water pump impeller was replaced. Yet, currently needs a possible ignition switch or wiring check. It started readily at the controls on the generator. There may be a fuel delivery issue. As the generator started at the last test and stopped. It ran smooth. The generator did not have a lot of use.
They had the boat hauled out and the bottom painted in 2019. Two coats of paint with a third coat applied at the water line. Bottom paint appeared fine to the recent diver cleaner. Yet stated it is due for new antifouling paint.
Thru hull valves were replaced for both port and starboard engine intakes. Including the head intake, generator intake, bait tank intake, backing plates and ball valves. The thru hull strainers were cleaned, painted and re-installed.
Both of the engine’s intake hoses from the strainers to the raw water pumps were replaced. Other hoses and bonding wires were inspected and reconnected. Zinc studs were replaced with an insulated stud system. Bonding system checked with meter. Found to be in satisfactory condition. Port and starboard shaft packing glands and rudder packing glands were repacked. Shafts and cutlass bearings were found to be in good condition.
A steering leak behind lower station helm console was found at that time. Leak was repaired and then the steering system was filled and purged properly for when a procedure like that is done. Morrison control cables for the upper and lower stations were replaced.
The macerator and each of the two head’s Vacuflush systems were inspected. All found to be working. Has a holding tank full sensor.
Fuses and fuse holders were installed between batteries and battery switches. A new 125 VAC rotary switch and the fuel tank senders in port and starboard tanks were installed. Three 8D batteries and a smart charger were installed.
This Californian has a 200-gallon steel fuel tank and a 250-gallon aluminum tank. Has anchor chain and working water heater. Helon fire system in place. Needs updated certification.
Comes with a 2012 Achilles 9’ dingy with a Tohatsu 6hp motor. Dual outriggers, rod holder rack for 8 fishing rods and a boom hoist. Electric windlass.
The salon has nice parkee wood flooring. The woodwork joinery for the floor engine hatches are well done. Which gives a nice warm atmosphere to the interior. Large windows for good lighting and visibility. Plenty of storage space cabinetry. Two full size beds and head with tub shower in the aft cabin. Forward head also has a shower.
