Your Day on the Water just got better!

Morris Yachts describes their vessels as semi-custom. This original owner of Hull # 4 of the Morris 486 series made 10 trips to Maine to consult with the project management team at Morris on placement of bulkheads, berths, galley, and cockpit design. The result is a fully equipped two stateroom with workroom model. Spectacular Cherry interior matches with soft fabrics to create a warm and inviting interior. Furling boom with full batten mainsail, Genoa and furling drifter provide a flexible sail inventory. The comprehensive electronics including AIS Watchmate Vision allow for safe navigation.  With over 40 amps of solar power and a generator, there is plenty of electrical power to run all systems.

This is a must see cruising yacht at our docks for comfortable viewing.

The Morris Difference

For more than 40 years, Morris Yachts has been building sailboats by hand, one at a time, by Maine’s finest craftsmen. Started by Tom Morris, and now continued by his son Cuyler, the family’s boatbuilding tradition upholds the same values now as it did then: Every boat should be stunning, deliver supreme performance, and be crafted with the type of quality, precision, and attention to detail that will turn heads wherever she goes.

Our designs maintain the timeless style of classic yachts, but through expert engineering and production innovations we continuously deliver new levels of performance and satisfaction to discerning owners. The kind of quality we put into our product is hard to find these days. Our boats are built to be sailed and, like our company, they last for generations. Since 1972, we’ve been delivering our yachts to every corner of the globe so our owners can enjoy beautiful days on beautiful boats.

At Morris Yachts, we believe our owners are a reflection of our values. They are passionate about sailing and love to love their boats. They celebrate style and innovation, and are demanding of the best to an exacting standard. They are also not afraid to carve their own paths. The decision to own a Morris can be one of the most powerful expressions of one’s individuality, passion, and sense of design.

While our yachts are known for their flawless hand joinery and meticulous brightwork, these features are just the most visible steps in a production process as state-of-the art as it is traditional. Carbon fiber, Kevlar composites, and the latest design concepts adopted by our in-house naval architect yield modern hulls built for performance and safety. In short, the beauty of a Morris is more than varnish deep.

Building the Yacht of Your Dreams

At Morris Yachts, we describe our boats as “semi custom”. Once the hulls come out of their molds, the consultation with the client begins. Placement of bulkheads, berths, galley cockpit designs, types of wood, decking options and just about everything else inside the hull and on-deck is designed in concert between you and our project management team. We recognize that many owners come to us after having mulled over these choices for years; sometimes, they come to us during the design phase armed with sketches and drafts of their ideas. For others, our salespeople and engineers can walk the owner through design choices. Our buying process is as straightforward or as comprehensive as the owner desires. The goal of the consultation process is simple: We want to build the yacht of your dreams."

Accommodations

The owner configured Galena II to sleeps four in two separate private cabins plus three in the main salon. The  American cherry interior woodwork is carefully matched and finished by the talented craftsmen at Morris Yachts. The cabin soles are solid teak and cherry and the overhead paneling is white tongue and groove. The galley and navigation area floor is protected by a removable padded sunbrella cover. Blue suede upholstery adds a rich feel throughout the interior. Galena II has 270 degree view through large fixed windows. There are many opening hatches, ports and dorades  to provide ventilation. All of the windows have shades and the opening hatches are fitted with combo shades and screens.

The master stateroom is forward with a large berth offset to port and private head and shower. The berth was offset to provide additional storage cabinets and hanging lockers.  The guest cabin is in the aft to port and features a double berth and plenty of storage. On the starboard side is an aft day head/guest head with shower. The custom workroom with tool cabinets, shelving and the washer dryer is accessed through the aft head. The main salon  is exceptionally light and airy due to the large cabin windows of the Raised Salon configuration. The dinette table converts to a double berth and the starboard settee converts to a sea berth. The large navigation table to starboard features a full desk for charts and is surrounded by full electronics. The L shaped galley to starboard features large counter space working areas with a double stainless steel sink. Two refrigerators/freezers provide enough storage for large passagemaking. The gimbled stainless steel propane stove/oven allows for cooking while underway

Deck and Hull

The hull is a laminate of E-glass over vacuum bagged Corecell core utilizing vinylester resin. An E-glass/Kevlar hybrid layer is included at the inner layer of the outer and inner skin against the core. The areas of the stern, keel sump, rudderpost port and sail drive port are of solid fiberglass reinforced vinylester. The hull is reinforced with longitudinal transverse bilge stringers, and the primary bulkheads are glassed to the hull. Additional hull reinforcement and stiffening includes a reinforced fiberglass mast step, engine beds, chainplate gussets, and a matrix of plywood bulkheads, bunk faces and shelves all fiberglassed in place where in contact with hull or deck.

The deep balanced spade rudder is fabricated with a carbon fiber/FRP hybrid skin over a closed cell foam foil utilizing epoxy resin, vacuum bagged and post cured. The rudderpost is of carbon fiber construction.

The deck is a laminate of E-glass over vacuum bagged Corecell core utilizing vinylester resin. The deck is permanently bonded to the hull flange using 3M-5200 adhesive sealant and through-bolted on 8" centers. In additional, a toe rail is bedded and fastened on 8" centers staggered so that there is mechanical fastening every 4".
