1969 Navy Personnel Carrier Mark 6

Navy surplus personnel carrier overbuilt to rigid US Navy specifications, powered by six cylinder Detroit diesel. Since it is a US made hull (manufactured by Gulfstar) it would be easy to certify as a passenger vessel. The Navy rates that boat at 40 passengers or 7200 lbs. The boat was used by the Navy to ferry passengers or cargo to and from ships. When not in use the boat was usually stored on the deck of the ship it was assigned to. This is the last 40 foot boat left.

A 40 foot open utility boat which is running and in the water is also available. These boats are priced to move, the owner needs the space.

The cabins have fiberglass bench seats on either side. No water, no electricity, no head, no lights, no electronics, no galley, just seats. The boat has some very minor damage from sitting in the storage yard and needs a thorough clean-up. One of the photos shows a sistership which has been converted into a boat for personal use.

The forward and aft cabins are around 10 feet long and 7 or 8 feet wide with headroom of 6 1/2 feet.

One Detroit Diesel 6-71N model 1062--7001 with Twin Disc MG-507A marine gear (2:1 reduction ratio). The engine developes 257 hp at 2300 rpm.

Actual boat speed is unknown but estimated to be 15 knots with specified propellor. Different speeds would be obtained using different props.

Engine hours are unknown but because these boats are normally stored on deck when not in use and usually only used when the ship they are kept on is in port AND not at a dock the hours are assummed to be low.

The boat and engine are sold as is. The engine in this boat needs a lot of work. The head cover was left off and there is rust on the pistons and in the cylinders, and the crackshaft has been reported to be scored (although we cannot confirm this). The engine is essentially complete but may not be savable. For an additional $3500 an identical engine which has been completely rebuilt is availbe.
