Beginning forward is a large double berth with small settee aft and to port, followed by a large hanging locker. Opposite to starboard is a cabinet which also houses the holding tank. Just aft of that is the head compartment with electric head, vanity with sink and manual water. Storage lockers are above the vanity. There is a common door for the head and forward cabin from the salon. Next aft is the salon, with an L-shaped settee to starboard, and there is a double leaf dinette table that lowers down form the bulkhead mounted locker. Opposite to port is  a straight bench settee, followed by the aft-facing nav. station. Just aft of the nav. station is what originally was the aft head, since converted to a very useful storage area for safety gear, water heater, etc. Aft of the starboard settee is the L-shaped galley with double s/s sink, refrigeration and stove with oven. This is further followed by the aft cabin, a double berth that has an opening port into the cockpit for communication and ventilation, ready access to the steering cables, idler gears, rudder quadrant and rudder post tube and the autopilot linear ram. Hull & Deck

"FLITE" is hull #29, the last of the Olson 40s built, and has some custom features by the original owners. The hull and deck were purchased while in the mold and moved to Bremerton, WA, where builders Jim Wirght and Ted Moreau finished the project. In addition to the standard lateral hull bracing that one sees in the hull of the boat,  on "FLITE" the bulkheads and furniture pieces are glassed in to the hull to further increase the lateral and torsional stiffness of the boat. The bulkheads and furniture is foam cored, GRP wrapped, creating a very light and strong structure. The hull and deck themselves are end grain balsa cored construction, with an internal hull flange that the deck is then thru-bolted to, further enhancing the stiffness and rigidity of the design.

The deck is custom in that the coamings are higher than standard, offering a somewhat drier experience. Coaming lockers are also incorporated here, affording places to stow winch handles, sail ties, etc. The traveler is mounted at the aft end of the cockpit seats and is adjacent to the helm, as are the traveler controls. Most sail control lines return to the cockpit to sheet stoppers and 2-sp. winches. The handrails along each side of the cabin top serve double duty in that they also serve as fairlead tubes for the genoa furling line and the  spinnaker foreguy control. There is a removable hard dodger to keep the spray down and the cockpit drier, and there are port & starboard grab rails on the dodger for a safer transition exiting or returning to the cockpit.
