Deck and Hull
The hull was designed for use by the Coast Guard and the Department of Fish and Game. A long keel gives the boat exceptional handling characteristics when at sea and helps protect the prop.
The pilothouse is completely enclosed with sliding doors on either site. On top is railing and a seat for better visibility. The deck is wide open to allow easy access or fishing on all sides of the boat. In the stern there are two six foot long bench seats and a Sampson post for towing. The hinged engine cover provides great accessibility to the engine and batteries.
Freeboard is about 30 inches for most of the boat, but a little more in the front. The deck is a little higher than the water level which allows the cockpit to be self-bailing. However, the bilge is fairly deep and bilge pumps are also needed to remove the water which seeps through deck seams. There is a large below deck storage locker forward.
Engine and Mechanical
The 351 cc eight cylinder freshwater cooled gas engine was removed and completely rebuilt in March of 2001. At top speed the engine uses about 8 gallons an hour, giving the boat a range of over 300 miles. The range is greater at lower speeds.
