Description

Mental Physics (formerly, "Zephyr") for sale, located in Santa Barbara, CA.

She's a 1989 Olson 25 (Ericson build, hull number #119)

25’ LOA, 9’ Beam, 2900 LBS Displacement, 1300lbs Ballast, Fin keel with spade rudder

  • Yanmar 1GM with a folding prop
  • traveler moved fwd to just aft of the companionway
  • Harken furler

Recent maintenance and improvements:

  • main bulkhead rebuilt
  • new standing rigging from Ballenger in 2018
  • new running rigging in 2017
  • new boom-kicker, new vang and backstay cascades, in 2018
  • new primary winches (oversize Lewmar Evo) in 2018
  • epoxy barrier coat on the bottom in 2016
  • cutless bearing for the prop shaft replaced in 2016
  • new AGM battery;
  • new main from Pineapple Sails in Alameda in 2019

Sail inventory:

  • excellent Ullman #1,
  • dying dacron #2, and
  • dacron #3 that I've never used, all 3 are set up for the furler.
  • old hank-on 95% jib
  • small, heavyweight asymmetrical chute and no spinnaker pole.
  • original main, which is in good condition
  • new (2019) Pineapple main

The Yanmar 1GM motor has been maintained (and is easy to maintain) and runs like a top.

For the hardcore racer, the boat does come with the two appropriate standing rigging tension gauges.

  • Raymarine ST1000 auto-tiller that works well for longer passages
  • porta-potty that has served us well on island trips
  • memory foam cushions for the v-berth, the quarterberths and the cockpit.
  • racing anchor rode (new and ultralight)
  • islands trip anchor rode (oversize with a small section of chain).
  • We use a camp stove and a cooler for island trips.
  • assortment of life-jackets and throwables,
  • full USCG safety gear (flares, fire extinguisher, horn),
  • double lifelines (required for offshore races),
  • newer VHF (with MMSI registered -- remind me to transfer the registration!)

The bottom paint was last done in September 2016, so it is due. Zincs are up-to-date.

This is not an O25 that can be raced one-design, but she can be raced PHRF and, carefully, she can be cruised to the Channel Islands.

The one-design PHRF rating is 165, which can (and should, if you intend to race consistently) be improved by petitioning your local PHRF committee.
