Description
Although this boat is a true 28 foot boat, it was introduced as the Carver 25 Montego in 1988. In 1993 Carver took the same hull, redesigned the interior and reintroduced the boat as the 280 Mid-Cabin Express. The layout is very open for this boat size and the head is larger than most. The engine was completely rebuilt and the outdrive completely replaced in 2003 and complete maintenance records are available for the last six years.

Accommodations and Layout
Sleeps four in two double berths with six feet of headroom. The aft berth is a mid-cabin layout under the cockpit like many boats this size, but this berth is mounted higher than most and is much less claustrophobic and easier to get in and out of than most. The forward berth is formed by lowering the dinette table. This is also larger than most forward berths in boats of this size. Because the dinette is part of the berth and not separate the cabin us very open. The head, located to starboard, has a shower and an electric toilet and is larger than the typical head on a boat this size. There are sliding windows and an overhead hatch to provide ventilation.
Galley
The galley runs the length of the salon on the port side so it is very open and user-friendly. Features include:
- 110 volt AC / 12 volt DC Norcold side-loading refrigerator
- Two burner alcohol/electric stove
- Stainless steel sink with hot and cold pressure water
- Good undercounter storage space
Electronics & Navigation
- Garmin fishfinder
- Standard Horizon Eclipse VHF
- Inpulse depthmeter/alarm
- Trim tab position indicator
- Compass
- CD player with cabin and cockpit speakers

- 12 volt DC system
- Two house batteries and one starting battery

Deck and Hull
The cockpit is fairly large with two forward-facing helm seats, an L-shaped transom seat and two smaller seats. There is a mount for a cooler which is designed for the boat, a small sink, transom gate and an integral swimstep with boarding ladder and bait tank.
There are two separate cockpit biminis, one for the forward cockpit and one for the aft. They can also be zipped together and there is a full camper enclosure for the cockpit which can be added.
Engine and Mechanical
The 5.7 liter Volvo Penta engine was completely rebuilt in 2003. At the time the entire oudrive was replaced as well. All receipts and Maintenance records over the last six years are available. The engine is very easy to get to and there is plenty of open room around it for maintenance and repairs. Controls are a single lever throttle/shifter.
