1990 Pacific Seacraft Crealock 37 Cutter

The Pacific Seacraft 37 (AKA Crealock 37) is a legend among offshore cruising sailboats. Pacific Seacraft 37 was designed by Bill Crealock, one of a handful of naval architects who can draw from his personal experience of eight years of blue water cruising. The Pacific Seacraft 37 is a graceful sailing yacht with timeless lines and has excellent performance on all points of sail, even in light air. Free Spirit is a highly upgraded, beautiful example of this elegant and capable blue water cruiser. She has been lovingly cared for by her owners throughout her life, and it shows. She is thoughtfully equipped for cruising with three three-blade max prop, Solar Panels, Cape Horn Jean-du-Sud wind vane, upgraded electrical systems and electronics, and much more. She is laid out for easy, shorthanded sailing with lines led aft to the cockpit. The varnish has just been renewed and Free Spirit shows exceptionally well.

Her designer, W.I.B. Crealock, has utilized a modern split keel and skeg rudder underbody.  She's sleek, beautiful, and a brilliant performer in all conditions, as was proven by her remarkable performance in the Singlehanded TransPacific Yacht Race. Chosen by veteran solo racer David White, the "Crealock 37", racing against larger boats, finished second, logging 2,482 miles - an average speed of 6.76 knots for 15 days straight

The PS 37 can carry her skipper and crew across any sea safely and in splendid comfort.  Moreover, she can do so with a swiftness that has previously been the exclusive realm of the ocean racer.  The Crealock 37’s design,  construction, and attention to detail make her a yacht appreciated and owned by sailors with years of experience and many blue water miles behind them.

In essence, Bill Crealock built the 37 for himself.  In his words: "I did not have to pay homage to interiors festooned with bunks, or revered classic features, or long waterlines or short or distorted ends.  The 37 is an attempt to provide the cruiser with a boat which will travel fast between ports under complete control, and which will yet remind him that the passage itself should be one of the pleasures of the cruise."

Standard Equipment Construction - Hand-laminated biaxial fiberglass hull & deck. The first hull laminate uses vinyl ester resin for superior blister resistance. The standard molded-in gel coat color is Oyster White. Stainless steel chainplates & backing plates are caulked & thru-bolted to the hull. Solid teak rub strake on the hull. - Rudder with steel web frame supported by high-strength manganese bronze gudgeon & closely coupled to steel-reinforced integral skeg. - Ballast is 6,200 pounds (2.82 mt) solid lead casting with s.s. Keel bolts. Keel-to-hull joint embedded in epoxy. - Interior is structural fiberglass, plywood & gel coat interior module bonded into hull with fiberglass mat & woven roving. Primary bulkheads bonded into hull & deck w-fiberglass, then bolted in place. - Deck, lockers & bilge gel coated to prevent mildew & to facilitate cleaning. - Deck-to-hull connection: mating hull & deck flanges bedded in polyurethane adhesive & fastened with stainless steel thru-bolts. The deck has a molded-in nonskid pattern. -

Deck Equipment - All cleats, winches, turning blocks, pulpits & stanchions have backing plates. Backing plates & hardware caulked with polyurethane. - 30" high, stainless steel double rail bow & stern pulpits with running lights and 30" high, double lifeline stanchions. - Stainless steel stem fitting with two anchor rollers & locking pins. - Divided bow chain locker for two anchor rodes. One deck pipe to port. - Deep bulwarks with heavy teak cap rail, hand-fitted with butterfly joints. - Chrome plated bronze deck hardware includes:  Four 7" x 12" & six 4" x 7" opening ports. Two 12" & two 10" bow mooring cleats with 4" hawse pipes. Two 10" open spring cleats amidships. Two 10" stern mooring cleats with 9" chocks. One anchor deck pipe on the foredeck, & one aft. - Designated cleats for each winch. Four teak loop handrails on cabin house. - Two 19" Bomar double opening hatches with screens. CE approved. - Two Vetus dorade box cowl ventilators. - Fiberglass seahood, teak companionway sliding hatch & drop boards. - Harken ball-bearing mainsheet traveler over companionway hatch. - Harken deck organizers & Spinlock rope clutches. - Inboard & outboard Genoa tracks with Harken lead cars. - Stainless steel boarding gates, port & starboard with double lifelines. - Stern chain locker to starboard w-deck pipe & anchor roller fairlead. - Stern mounted s.s. Swim ladder with teak treads, boarding gate & overboard retrieval line.

Interior - Varnished teak woodwork. White Formica cabin house sides. - Louvered locker doors & solid drop doors with hidden hinges. - Louvered cabin door (top half only) & panel head door with piano hinges. - Chrome bronze push button locks on all locker doors & drawers - 6' 4" headroom with teak & holly sole throughout cabin area, all hatches & hatch openings in sole banded in solid teak. - Wrapped 4" foam cushions with choice of fabrics. - Zippered vinyl headliner for access to deck hardware & wiring. Forecabin - 6' 6" long & 50" wide double offset berth forward to starboard. - Dressing seat, vanity & mirror. Two cedar-lined louvered hanging lockers. - Drawers, bookshelf, cabinets & storage bins. Plumbing - Two water tanks with inspection ports, approx. 85 gal. (322 Itr.) total. - Hot & cold pressure fresh water system for galley, head & shower. - Easy access to fresh water manifold. Color-coded water hoses. - Manual water foot-pumps in head & galley. Accumulator tank. - Six-gallon hot water heater from the engine heat exchanger or shore power. - Bronze thru-hull fittings with UL-approved bronze seacocks below the waterline & bronze ball valves above the waterline. - All thru-hull hose connections are double hose clamped. - Marine head with 16 gal. holding tank & manual overboard pump out. - Electric shower sump pump with overboard discharge. - 11 GPM electric automatic bilge pump with Ultra float switch. - 25 GPM manual bilge pump in cockpit operable by helmsman.

Engine - YANMAR 4JH2E, four-cylinder, 44 hp diesel with fresh water cooling, 3" exhaust & 80 amp alternator. Yanmar "C" control panel. - Clear covered engine control panel in cockpit with tachometer, engine hour meter & engine condition indicators. - Removable 40-gallon (151 Itr.) alum. Fuel tank w-gauge & cleaning port. - Mechanical fuel pump, electric back-up fuel pump. - Racor MA 500 fuel filter with water separator. The dome light in the engine room. - Seawater strainer bulkhead mounted & water lift muffler system. - Two-blade solid bronze propeller.

Electrical - AC-DC master power control panel with AC ammeter, AC voltmeter, polarity test circuit, 8 AC circuit breakers, DC ammeter, DC voltmeter & 20 DC circuit breakers. The panel is hinged for easy access & a clear plastic screen. - Tinned copper wiring throughout. 110-volt shore power system. - Three Lifeline advanced absorbent glass mat sealed deep cycle Marine batteries (105 amp-hrs. each) below decks. - Four-position battery switch. - One adjustable chart light at the navigation station. - Cantalupi lights (eight domes & six reading). - Seven 110-volt AC duplex receptacles with GFI protection. - The VHF coaxial antenna cable is led from the masthead to the nav-table. - Shore power breaker.

Cockpit - 8' 10" long seats with contoured seat backs & seat drains. - Coamings have two built-in winch handle boxes. - Three cockpit seat lockers for storage. Dome light in port locker. - Stern lazarette hatch & vented propane locker for two 20 lb. tanks. - One 5-gallon-20-pound propane tank (empty). Copper LPG hose. - Two safety harness pad eyes. - Whitlock pedestal wheel steering with brake & offset s.s. Spars and Rigging - Aluminum spars are finished with two parts of linear polyurethane paint. - Six sheave masthead external halyards airfoil spreaders. - Combination bow - foredeck light on mast. Anchor light on masthead. - Internal conduit with VHF coax cable & wires. - Two single-line reefs, reef horns, and gooseneck. - Internal 2:1 outhaul, adjustable boom topping lift. - 4:1 Harken block & tackle boom vang. All Harken blocks. - 9-32" 1x19 s.s. Standing rigging. Color-coded dacron running rigging. - Forged chrome bronze open-body turnbuckles.

The exceptional teak joinery work creates a warm and inviting interior with ample storage and comfortable areas for the crew. Attention to detail has been addressed throughout, resulting in great ventilation, ample safety rails, and a beautiful teak and holly cabin floor with hatches secured with latches.

A shelf forward begins in the forward stateroom, with double-door chain locker access above that at the foot of the offset double berth. Beneath the berth are three drawers and two large storage bin spaces, a dressing seat, a vanity, and a mirror. Storage includes two tall lockers, more louvered cabinet storage along the port hull side, and storage behind and beneath the seat. Lighting and ventilation are abundant, with an overhead hatch and three opening ports.

Aft is the main salon. To port is a long settee with storage below it and behind it, a teak-planked magazine rack and storage bins with two reading lights above it. Across the starboard is an L-shaped dinette with a drop leaf centerline table. An insert can be put in to convert this to a comfortable double berth. There is storage below and behind the seating; above that is a teak-planked bookshelf with teak lockers on either end. Two more reading lights are located on this side of the cabin. The salon cushions were replaced in 2014

Aft of the dinette is the U-shaped galley. There is access to dinnerware via the overhead storage cabinet. Beneath that, there are two deep stainless steel sinks, with hot and cold pressure water and storage beneath them. Outboard of that is a cutting board, which cleverly conceals a trash bin. The Force 10 stove, with storage behind it and below it, has an oven and a broiler. Aft of that is a large icebox with refrigeration, hinged lid access, and teak louvered storage lockers above.

The Nav station is across from the galley on the port side. The chart table is comfortable and conveniently accessible to the drop-down electrical panel. A wet locker is located beneath the table, and storage is under the seat. The quarter berth behind it boasts a spacious sleeping area.

Galley is U-shaped and located just inside the companionway to starboard.

When you step aboard a Pacific Seacraft, it is obvious why they have the excellent reputation that they do. There are substantial bulwarks with a heavy teak cap rail. The teak joints are hand fitted with butterfly joints. The 30" high, double lifeline stanchions are mounted on the bulwarks to resist moisture intrusion into the deck. The deck hardware is all larger than found on most vessels and is all chrome plated solid bronze- nothing but the best. The list goes on and on, reinforcing with every item the quality, strength and safety crafted into every boat.
