Description

"PILGRIM" is a very nice example of the preferred 2 stateroom model Catalina 42. These yachts have earned an international reputation as leaders in their class. Great design, cruising performance, and comfort all make the Catalina 42 a top choice of cruising sailors worldwide. The hull of PILGRIM is high volume, and easily driven, with a fine entry, firm mid-ship section, and smooth run aft ending with a modified reverse transom with a very large and functional boarding platform.

The Catalina 42 Mark I  was introduced in 1988 and evolved until 1995 when it was replaced by the Mark II Model. The hull was adapted from an earlier racing hull designed by Nelson Marek. Catalina Yachts modified the racing hull with a new cabin top, interior, and rig in order to make it a comfortable coastal cruising boat which two people could easily handle. The spacious design is comfortable for a gang of crew on a week-long cruise. With a race-bred hull and a substantial rig, the boat is moderately stiff and capable of weather legs approaching 8 knots, and downwind action which can push the knot meter past 15 knots. She has a PHRF handicap rating of 102/108 (So. California), which has been the subject of many heated discussions by Cat42 skippers. But as the sun sets over your favorite hideaway anchorage, there is little argument that the Catalina 42 is hard to match for her comfort.

Accommodations

Forward-most in the owner's cabin is the ensuite head compartment with separate shower. The owner's cabin features a large Pullman berth to port with drawers beneath and hanging locker and drawer storage to starboard. Next aft is a very accommodating L-shaped settee/dinette to port, followed by the chart table/freezer locker. Opposite is the "L" shaped galley, followed by the second head/shower compartment. Aft to port and starboard and separated by the companionway and engine compartment are two mirror-image cabins, each with a large double berth, drawer and hanging locker storage. A well designed layout with generous storage throughout, great ventilation and comfortable accommodations. The interior is done in teak veneers and solids, white ash batten hull ceiling, and teak/holly cabin sole.
