Description

"AVEL" is the 55th example built of the very popular SWAN 44 Mk II built by Nautor of Finland. Designed by German Frers, the redesigned SWAN 44 Mk II featuring a more typical SWAN "wedge deck" was placed into production in the mid-1990's. Her exceptional performance and accommodations and large cockpit have proven to be very popular with both cruising and racing sailors alike. AVEL" is well equipped with an electric halyard and primaries winches to facilitate her ease-of-handling.

Rich interior woodwork of hand-rubbed satin finish varnish application with the trademark Nautor's SWAN light-grained teak joinery.

The Two Heads forward & Aft feature tile floors and a white glass fiber-reinforced plastic interior module for ease of maintenance.

Mast, Standing & Running Rigging

The SWAN 44 Mk II is equipped with a NAUTOR silver-anodized double-spreader mast.

The mast is keel-stepped onto a galvanized steel mast step with adjustable shoe for mast rake adjustment.

"AVEL" is provided with optional SPECTRA running rigging that includes all sheets, halyards and lifts.

All halyards, the mainsheet, reef lines & spinnaker pole control lines lead aft to (11) SPINLOCK stoppers as follows: starboard side: main sheet, reef, main halyard, genoa halyard, spinnaker halyard, foreguy and port side: mainsail outhaul, reef, genoa halyard, spinnaker halyard, spinnaker pole topping lift.

Additional Information

"AVEL" deck features the standard Nautor 9 mm laid teak construction overlay battens on the side decks, coachroof centerline recess, entrance hatch garage cockpit floor, seats & winch bases. The teak is vacuum-bagged without screws. Teak lips are provided outside of sheet tracks.

"AVEL" has the optional "Scoop transom" recessed swim platform with an integral stainless steel ladder and steps.

The stemhead is a custom stainless steel unit fitting with an anchor chain roller and headsail tack attachment. There are stainless steel main shroud chainplates bolted to the bulkhead.

Construction

The SWAN 44 Mk II hull construction features the use of a fiberglass reinforced polyester laminate. The deck construction is a sandwich construction using fiberglass reinforced skin laminates with closed-cell foam core. The deck is thru-bolted to the hull on 4" centers through the standard Nautor silver anodized aluminum toerail (provided with drain holes where necessary). There are solid laminate or high-density inserts provided with aluminum backup plates under deck fittings. The structural bulkheads are made of high-quality marine grade plywood especially fabricated to NAUTOR specifications that is laminated to the hull and deck. Hull stiffeners are unidirectional lay-ups over foam cores.
