The Marlow Hunters feature a a redesigned interior with huge volume featuring a generous aft cabin with front and side access and en-suite head/shower. The galley has a large Corian countertop with considerable storage for longer journeys. The size and amenities of the living areas match many 40 footers

The 37 is designed to be easily managed by a couple. Traveler controls, jib sheets and halyard are all conveniently accessed from the cockpit or helm positions. Her larger main and smaller headsail combination are easier to control. Similar to the Hunter 40, the new 37 has a hard chine in the hull shape to increase form stability while also creating more interior space.

• B&R rigs allow a more balanced forward mast position and easy tacks with the non-overlapped jib and swept-back spreaders. Upwind performance is spirited and balanced.
• The overhead arch creates boom-end sheeting for better leverage and de-clutters the cockpit. The mainsheet is double-ended and can be handled from the cabin top or from the aft-end at the arch, making single-handing much easier.
• The unique hull design features a "bow hollow" entry for a smoother, drier ride; a hard-chine aft section for a faster ride with less heel and more interior volume; a stern reflex shape which flattens out the aft end of the hull for less drag.
• Construction materials include Kevlar lining in the bow section and in other strategic locations, Nida-Core coring and modified epoxy resins. Interior gelcoats have an anti-bacterial compound that stops mold and mildew.
• Marlow Hunter interiors are made as one-piece units inside a "mock-hull" then placed in the actual hull. This approach makes for consistent fits and easier, cleaner routing of wiring and plumbing components.

HARD CHINE 

The benefits of the hard chine design is a significant increase in hull form stability.   This increased stability allows more sail area to be carried in a given wind condition, plus reducing rolling motion down wind, hence a more comfortable ride and less movement in the sail plan - especially helpful in light to medium wind conditions.   The hard chine also aids in upwind tracking ability for improved performance.   A further benefit of the hard chine design is increased volume internally allowing more storage and comfort space - primarily in the aft cabin area.

BOW HOLLOW

The "bow hollow" is a concave shape at the bow waterline above and below and just aft of the bow that accomplishes two good things on a relatively wide beam boat.

Less Resistance.  This makes the hull go faster sooner.   The top end is limited by the theoretical hull speed but less resistance will allow the boat to get to that speed faster with less power.   This will result in better speed in light breezes and greater fuel economy under power. 

Reduced Pitching.   The concave waterline and sharp bow cuts down on the volume in the forward section.   As a boat is moving through choppy water the reduced buoyancy of the hollow shapes stop the bow from rising up with the wave, instead allowing it to cut through the wave.   This will result in less pitching or "hobby horsing" thus creating a more comfortable sail.

STERN REFLEX.   If you examine the hull underbody in profile, you will notice a subtle "S" shape in he stern.  The underbody actually begins to return to a flatter line at the stern.   This does two things.

•  It flattens out the stern wave, reducing drag.
• It forces the stern wave to form further aft to artificially produce a longer waterline.

Both of these effects increase the boats speed potential.  In light air, it allows the water to separate from the hull earlier because the curve is steeper at that point.  Stern turbulence is almost none existent when under way.   Look over the transom when sailing and you'll notice how clean the wake is.  Less disturbed water = less resistance which means more efficient sailing.

"The Hunter 37 is effectively a smaller sistership to the Hunter 40, which was introduced in something of a rush in 2012 as Marlow Hunter—formerly Hunter Marine—celebrated its 40th birthday and a change of ownership. Like the 40, the 37 features an aggressive modern appearance, with a dramatic port window accent, a fine concave bow, a hard-chined hull and lots of beam aft. It also packs a lot of accommodation space into a hull of modest overall length and is an easy boat for a small crew to sail efficiently."

Under Sail

"Our test boat was equipped with a furling main, as that’s what most people order. Nor did we have a gennaker or spinnaker aboard. In spite of being so hobbled, we did surprisingly well. In just 3-5 knots of true wind, we made 3 knots of boatspeed closehauled at a 40-degree apparent wind angle. Cracking off a bit, we made 3.4 knots at 45 degrees, 3.5 at 90, and 2.7 at 130. To give an idea of what’s possible, in one mad gust that spiked to 10 knots, we got the boat flying at 6 knots, no problem. The boat had a good light-air helm. Steering was neutral and true, with no lee helm at all."

Under Power

"Our test boat was over-endowed with the optional 40hp Yanmar engine (as opposed to the standard 29hp engine) and the optional fixed three-blade prop (as opposed to the standard two-blade wheel). Consequently, we tore through the flat wind-free water at 8.8 knots with the throttle all the way down at 2,950 rpm. At 2,400 rpm we made 8 knots. Even at a sedate 2,200 rpm, we were still bustling along at 7.7.

Backing up, the prop bit instantly and helm control was very good. Turning hard going forward we could spin the hull within little more than a boat length."

Conclusion

"You’ll be hard pressed to find a bigger 37-foot boat than this. The interior space is efficiently laid out, the boat is easy to sail, and she is fast under both sail and power. Just do me a favor—please—and order the full-batten main!"

The Marlow-Hunter 37 is a stunning cruiser that is larger than any of her competitors and by far the largest volume sailboat on the market under 40 feet . The updated window line gives this yacht a sleek feel, but the improvements don’t end there. The Glenn Henderson hull design still reflects the bow hollow and stern reflex but the design has been improved upon with a hard hull chine featuring a wider beam carried further aft which allows for more space below as well as stability and performance on the water.

The deck features a sleek, modern profile with large side windows allowing for increased interior light. The deck hatches are flush-mount, offering an enhanced look that complements the profile. Lengthening the cockpit has allowed the MH37 to have a cockpit that is roomier and the fold down cockpit table allows the crew to take advantage of more cockpit space. The cockpit of the MH37 also features a fold-down swim platform that extends the already lengthy cockpit another four feet when folded down while the boat is docked or at anchor. Even with the fold-down swim platform, the MH37 has a telescoping stainless steel swim ladder that can be easily accessed while the swim platform is up or down. This safety feature not only functions well, providing stable steps for re-boarding the boat, but also hides away, making for a cleaner looking stern. The transom features a large storage area designated to neatly stow away shore power cords.

Down below, the master aft cabin is roomy and features comfortable headroom and private access to the head. The interior has been enhanced with a richer look and feel. Enhancements start at the sole of the interior which features a hardwood flooring look that accentuates the true beauty of the interior. The large galley features Corian countertops with complementing stainless steel fiddles that not only keep items from falling off the countertops in a seaway but also serve as excellent hand holds for personal stability when preparing a meal or moving about below. The main salon is breathtaking from the level of fit and finish to the sheer volume she delivers. She features a full navigation station and a salon table also doubles as an additional bunk area for 2 people when the table is lowered into the bunk position. The forward cabin is large enough that it has been mistaken for the master cabin.

Throughout the MH37 she features seriously upgraded hardware and superior features such as warm LED lighting, dovetailed drawers, ball bearing slides on cabinet drawers, superior fit and finish with real and exotic timber used with high end fabrics to create, an inviting and warm interior second to none. The Marlow Hunter 37 is incredible for entertaining - with a gorgeous, cherry interior, large windows that offers an abundance of natural light and ventilation which is very impressive as you descend the companionway stairs.  With two private cabins the boat is very roomy for a family of four or two couples with children. The salon offers additional sleeping with a single and twin berth (drop down dinette). The innerspring mattress in the aft stateroom makes for a comfortable night's sleep.

About the B&R Rig from Boats.com 

Designed by the late Lars Bergstrom and Sven Ridder, the B&R rig eliminates the need for a backstay to allow for a more efficient mainsail shape. Fixed backstays are often omitted from the designs of today's performance-oriented boats to allow the mainsail to incorporate a full roach design — a more aerodynamic shape both for racing and cruising performance.

  The B&R rig has 30-degree swept spreaders, creating 120 degrees between each rigging point. The result is a tripod arrangement, used for years to support huge radio towers, that has excellent strength for sailboat rigs.While conventional rigs often lead their shrouds inboard to allow for the large genoa overlap, Hunter takes them far outboard to the hull. This wide chain plate base significantly reduces the compression loads to the deck and hull, while allowing for tighter sheeting angles. The smaller headsail sheets are inside the spreader base.

  The latest advancement to the B&R rig is the addition of mast struts. These struts stabilize the lower section of the mast, allowing compression loads to be spread and reducing the point loading at the mast base. They create a strong point for the boom and spinnaker pole loadings. The struts also allow us to use a smaller mast section reducing weight aloft to decrease the heeling and pitching moments, making for a more comfortable ride. Additionally, they provide a secure handhold when going forward.

 The B&R rig is also supported with the addition of reverse diagonal rigging. For example, the diagonals beginning at the top of the mast strut and ending at the tip of the spreader support and stabilize the lower section of the mast by creating a triangle with the upper shroud. This allows us to induce the mast's pre-bend prior to stepping the mast. Similar to a sailboard, the pre-bend is loaded within and does not deliver pre-bend compression loading to the hull and deck.

  The B&R rig is designed to be pre-bent to further add rigidity to the mast section and eliminate the need for adjustable rigging (like backstay adjusters, babystays and runners). This design should prove more reliable than a rig with adjustable backstays or runners, as there is less chance for error.

 The large main, small jib sailplan on these Hunters also eliminates the need for large overlapping headsails, since the driving power comes from the much improved shape and size of the mainsail. This allows for an easier tacking small jib, creating good performance and more comfortable sailing — and less work for the crew. It is far more aerodynamically efficient to reef the main than furl the headsail. Plus it provides better balance from the rig and more control for the rudder.

 With the large main creating additional mainsheet and leech loading, Hunter has placed the mainsheet atop a cockpit arch on many models. The mainsheet loads are placed at the same location as the leech loading to reduce the bending loads on the boom. The mainsheet loading is also reduced, allowing for easier control of the mainsail. The arch also serves as a handhold while in the cockpit as well as an attachment point for a Bimini top.
