Overview

The 1987 Ericson 38-200 is a highly regarded racer-cruiser designed by Bruce King and built by Ericson Yachts. Introduced in 1986 as an update to the original Ericson 38, the "200" model refined both interior accommodations and sailing performance, making it a standout choice for coastal cruising and offshore passage-making.

Highlights

  • Triaxial Force Grid (TAFG): Built around a hollow molded fiberglass grid system bonded to the interior of the hull. This redistributes keel, engine, and rig loads, ensuring superior structural rigidity and preventing hull flex under heavy weather.
  • Keel & Helm Balance: The 38-200 variant slightly shifted the mast and keel positions relative to the original 38, resulting in better helm balance and improved upwind performance
  • Lead Keel & Spade Rudder: Features a deep fin keel paired with a balanced spade rudder for precise handling and impressive responsiveness.
  • Aft Cabin Layout: Offers a private aft stateroom with a double berth.
  • Head & Shower Stall: Features an enclosed head with a dedicated stall shower to starboard—a rare luxury on an 1980s 38-foot sailboat.
  • Main Salon: Features a spacious U-shaped dinette to port, a starboard settee, and generous wood joinery throughout, providing 6'3" headroom.
